The Scottish Tradition in Canada

The third largest ethnic group in this country, the Scots have spread in all directions across the nation, with the result that their history in Canada, more than that of most ethnic groups, is to a great extent the history of Canada itself. To show what effect Scottish participation has had on our nation, this volume brings together the work of thirteen authors - historians, sociologist, literary critics and others - who trace the history of the Scots in 14 different areas of Canadian life. The book concentrates on the years prior to 1900, with a final chapter sketching the part played by Scots in all aspects of Canadian life over the last seven decades.
